Today in class, we had to examine a HP pc. Now I am not really into computers a lot but it is definitely something I am interested in, to learn about. Our mission was to be able to identify all the different parts of an computer. Here is what I was able to come up with all by myself after a lesson from Mr. Spence. First lets see the case. ![]() If you were to look at this for the first time, it would just be a box with holes in it. But the case is what holds together all the objects which create a computer. The "holes" which are seen, are USB ports and AUX ports. On the left side there is also a disk drive where you can insert cds. ![]() This is the back of the case. On the right side we can see a fan which just cools the inside of the PC. Most of these ports are for powering the machine. Some are for USB's and you can also see one is for ethernet, which gives connection to the internet. Next lets look at the key components inside the case. ![]() The green part is the motherboard. All the parts are connected from the motherboard. It is really important because it gives all the parts power and a connection to the processor which is the brain of the computer. ![]() Heatsink: covers the processor. Its job is to cool down the processor since the processor gets really warm. Processor: You cannot see it in this picture, but the processor is underneath the heatsink. It is the brain of the computer. Its job is to recieve input and provide the appropriate output. ![]() Every electrical device needs power. This is the power supply which powers all the parts in the PC. First, the power is taken to the motherboard, which then gives power to the rest of the parts. To buy a power supply you need to know how many watts your parts need. It is always safer to get a greater watt power supply than a lower one. ![]() This is the hard drive. It stores all your data. Nowadays you should atleast be getting a 128gb hard drive. Anything lower is garbage. ![]() RAM allows your computer to do more things at once. Some people think it makes it faster but it really doesn't. In my opinion I would get 16gb of RAM because for gaming I believe it is necessary. For a working computer 8gb of RAM will suffice. ![]() Lastly we have the fan. Its job is to cool the computer. If your computer gets to hot it can fry which can lead you to having a broken computer :(. It is always good to clean your fan regularly because it does get dusty which can affect the efficiency of the fan. This is the whole computer. Now you are ready to go with all of these parts. Some extra parts you will need for better performance would be a graphics card and a SSD, but here are the bare minimum parts. I hope you learned something from this post!
